Ever flipped through your favourite glossy and realised that your bed just doesn’t look like the one in the picture? Our stylist, Kelly Larkin gives us her top tips on how you can bring the showroom home, and It’s easier than you think.

Buy a Large Quilt.
Not only is this perfect for those who have partners that steal the quilt covers, buying a larger quilt can really elevate a look. “This allows for some nice draping on the bed and makes it look fuller. Using two quilts in one cover creates a puffy look and also keeps you extra toasty during the warmer months”, Kelly says. Further, you can really play with colours here - “Layering cushions and pillows with varying textures and colours is a great way to add interest”.

Draw Focus.
Creating symmetry and depth within a room can really make it pop. Whether you prefer something busy with patterns and colours or a minimalistic setup, Kelly suggests centering your bed in the space that you have to really make a statement. “It’s a great way to make it a focus, while allowing you to create some symmetry with bedside tables and accessories. Using a vibrant colour on your bed will allow you to create a focal point to draw the eye so you can really show off your style!”.

Accessorise.
Now you have the base, it’s all about the styling - “If you’re going for a more formal look, a structured pillow arrangement of euros and standard pillows with a few cushions in front of one another works well, but if you’re going for a more casual look, you could always opt-out of euros and layer standards with a few cushions and throws for a nice cosy ‘I just woke up’ look”, says Kelly.

Consider Minimalism.
For those that live in smaller apartments or have smaller rooms, keeping a streamlined, minimal look can be a great way of brightening up the room and giving the allusion of a larger space. By choosing white or neutral tones, you can make your space feel lighter. Kelly adds “Less is more with a small space - don’t overrun your bed with too many accessories or pillows. If you can, use floating shelves and wall sconces instead of table lamps to help widen the space.”

If you have space, use it.
For those that have large master suites, a couch or ottoman can make for a homely look while a bookshelf and artwork can work to create contrast. If you’re aiming for something more natural, a large fiddle leaf tree or hanging plant is another way to bring colour into the room, plus it can also contribute to your overall health and wellbeing.

Finally, it is all about colour.
“Whatever colour scheme speaks to you, there are many different trends to play with. If you feel like something bold, but you want to tone it back a little - play with accessories. I would suggest selecting a fairly neutral wall for your space, so the bed becomes the focus. Try dusty rose or even soft cream tones.”
