How to incorporate plants into the bedroom

Looking to transform your space for the warmer months? Adding in a pop of greenery can enhance colour in a minimalistic space, reduce stress, increase your productivity and naturally filter air pollutants during the spring season.

Whether you love a giant monstera or a small succulent, we’ve rounded up the best ways to incorporate plants in your bedroom.

Pop them on the shelf

This seems self-explanatory, but adding dimension to your room can add an open feel to a bedroom that is light on décor. Choose a beautiful hanging plant like Devil’s Ivy or Peace Lily to add to one of the shelves to brighten the space. You can even create a plant shelf as a feature. We love using bookshelves for this very reason.

Mix it up with pots

Although the greenery of plants can stand out, you can purchase pots in every colour, shape and style nowadays. If you love a minimalistic feel, monochrome pots like black, white or grey are great to bring the focus to the plant itself, but you can also find beautiful handmade pots in all vibrant colours to add an extra pop of colour to your room. Paint your own with DIY kits like this one from Leaf and Loom Creative!

Hang them up

There are so many great plants in pots, but some of them can be hung from the roof! We love hanging plants like Burro’s Tail and Hanging Jade to add a feature point to a wall in your bedroom. If you love DIY crafts, create your own Macrame (weaved) hanging plant holder – this easy to follow blogpost by The Spruce Crafts is a great read.

Fill in empty spaces

Sometimes, it’s easy to include a piece of furniture or a décor piece in those hard-to-fill corners of a room; however, a plant can really make those areas become a focal point. Include plants of varying heights for a layered look – we love Monsteras, Fiddle Leaf Figs and large ferns.

Don’t forget about small plants

Although it seems luxurious to add oversized greenery to your space, don’t discount small plants. From adding a succulent to a bedside table or a small rubber fern in your ensuite, there are so many great ways to utilise small plants when styling a bedroom. Plus, they are low in cost and (generally) low maintenance.

Pop them by a window

If you want some extra privacy, placing plants near a window (especially if you live street-side), is a great way of shielding your space, without the need for extra blinds or compromising the morning sun. Tip: choose plants that thrive in sunlight or you could risk them drying out.

Finally, have fun – and don’t forget to water your plants!
